SA: Fires left to burn in SA

ADELAIDE, Dec 11 AAP - Two fires burning on South Australias west coast since yesterday
had destroyed about 140 hectares of open grassland, but as yet posed no threat to stock or
property, the Country Fire Service (CFS) said today.

The CFS said the fires, near Yalata, were being left to burn at this stage with their
progress continually monitored.

Despite temperatures across the state soaring into the 40s today, the CFS said it had no
other reports of major problems by mid-morning.

The only other incident of note was at Port Germein, north of Adelaide, where a
semi-trailer had to be hosed down when its brakes overheated, posing a fire risk.

The CFS said because of the extreme fire danger across the state its operations centre was
on full alert and crews in key areas had also been placed on standby.

Three fire-spotting planes, one in the south-east of the state and two in the Adelaide
Hills, had also been placed on standby.
